Transportation Industry

For the record

Railway Age, March, 2005

Railway Age's Passenger Car Review and Outlook (January, p. 60) should have reported that the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and Breda are currently negotiating the payment for and delivery of an order for 60 low-floor light rail vehicles.

The efforts of CPR's work block planning team are guided by the Intelligent Maintenance Scheduler (IMS) as developed by Intelligent Railroad Systems, not by "various MultiRail programs," as reported in RA's December 2004 feature, "CPR: Patience, precision, prudence" (p. 21). "The IMS's role is to assist the planners with the assignment of track times to the maintenance gangs while determining the impacts on the train service plan," explains Intelligent Railroad Systems's James Ruffing. "Overall, IMS's goal is to maximize each gang's track time while minimizing the resultant train delays." This is done for all scheduled train services operated across whole service corridors.
