The portable Composite Bridgeplate from Michigan Scientific Transportation Products, LLC is installed between adjacent multi-level autorack railcar decks, facilitating loading and un-loading of motor vehicles, It was designed to meet requirements provided by the Association of American Railroad's Recommended Practice 951-03. The load rating is three times that of existing bridgeplates (3,600 pounds vs. 1,200 pounds), and it is nearly 40% lighter in weight (23 pounds vs. 39 pounds). Being constructed from composite materials allows for integration of many desirable safety and ergonomic features not found in current bridgeplates. The Composite Bridgeplates will be manufactured in 2 lengths; 53 and 56 inches.
