Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway

Railway Age, April, 2004

Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway: Took delivery of 50 aggregate cars from Johnstown America. Johnstown converted steel rapid-discharge coal cars into smaller cubic capacity, cars for carrying aggregates by cutting a two-hopper, 12-foot-long center section out of the five-hopper coal cars and reassembling them.

The automatic discharge mechanism was reconditioned. The new triple hopper cars are now certified to carry 286,000-pound GRLs.
