Railway Age, April, 2008
RFTrax's Asset Command Unit (ACU) has received UL[R] (Underwriters Laboratories) 913 Intrinsically Safe Certification for operation in Class 1, 2, and 3 Division 1 hazardous locations, which include railroad tank cars hauling such flammable or explosive materials as petroleum and LPG, ACU is a wireless tracking device that monitors and reports on a railcar's Global Positioning System (GPS) location and such other metrics as open/closed hatch, loaded/empty status, and temperature.
The UL certification enables the use of the device in processing and handling facilities that require all railcars, even those not carrying flammable or explosive cargoes, to be compliant with UL 913.
