Railway Age, April, 2008

The FTA has approved the start of an environmental impact study on the proposed Southwest Corridor Light Rail Transit line from Minneapolis to Eden Prairie. The $2 million study, to take 18 months, will evaluate three route alternatives, Hennepin County has budgeted funds to cover the entire EIS cost if necessary.

Prospects for the line have been aided by Minnesota's transportation bill, which allows metro counties to levy a quarter-cent sales tax for transit, allowing the state to more easily provide its share of matching funds and bolster a project's potential standing with FTA.
