Acela Express gains market share
Railway Age, April, 2008
Amtrak, the travel-market-share leader between New York and Washington, D.C., is flexing its muscles on the northern end of the Northeast Corridor. Amtrak's air/rail market share for Boston-New York service has increased from 36% in fiscal year 2006 to 41% in FY2007.
Amtrak's share includes both Acela Express and Northeast Regional services.
"The 41% reflects an upward trend in both the New York-D.C. market as well as New York-Boston," according to Amtrak spokesman Cliff Black. "In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007, New York-Boston rail share was 47%, rising from 38% in the first quarter of the fiscal year." Amtrak operates nine daily Acela Express round trips on the NEC between New York and Boston.
