Roughly 7,000 riders per day frequented Sprinter rail service in its first week of operation, according to the North County Transit District, The 22-mile diesel light rail transit (DLRT) service links Escondido and Oceanside, Calif., with connections in Oceanside to Amtrak and Coaster rail services, and to various local bus services, Projections call for 11,600 daily riders on weekdays by the end of Sprinter's first year of operation.

Nearly 13,000 passengers crammed Sprinter trains during its opening day, March 9.
