APTA E-commerce site open for business - Industry Outlook - American Public Transportation Association's Web site - Brief Article

Railway Age, May, 2002

TransportMAX, the American Public Transportation Association's Internet marketplace, opened for business in April following a three-month pilot phase. The E-commerce site, which APTA says "is designed to facilitate the buying of goods and services in the public transportation industry ... to enable transit agencies and their suppliers to significantly reduce the time and costs involved in the acquisition of products and services," was developed by Booz Allen Hamilton.

TransportMAX offers online RFP processing, as well as electronic catalogues, storefronts, and auctions. During its pilot phase, nine transit authorities and 270 suppliers transacted business, with more than 265 RFQs posted and 200 contracts worth $165,000 awarded.
