For the record

Railway Age, May, 2003

A Supply Side item in the April issue (p 12) listing IRECO, a supplier of forgings, stampings, cable assemblies, and castings, as being acquired by the Railway Supply Group said that IRECO would become "the fifth company now operating under the IRECO umbrella." IRECO will actually become the fifth company operating under the Railway Supply Group umbrella.

Also in the April issue, a report on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway (p. 4) states that "About 600 miles will be more than 2,500 feet above sea level, 3,150 feet at the highest point." The railway will actually be more than 13,000 feet above sea level and 16,640 feet at its highest point. In addition, the sentence about "Mount Fenghuo, 3,100 feet above sea level and site of a 900-foot tunnel" should read "16,400 feet above sea level and site of a 4,500-foot tunnel."

The April issue also contained a report on CBTC (p. 30), in which the paragraph beginning "ITCS has been in revenue service..."requires clarification. From the second sentence on, it should read: "Amtrak and Norfolk Southern operate daily with ITCS in southwest Michigan under full enforcement and continuous train supervision with all Amtrak trains operating at 90 mph. Amtrak and GETS-GS are working with the FRA to complete a safety case that would allow ITCS operation upto 110 mph."
