RASIG's top student papers

Railway Age, May, 2004

The Institute for Operations Research and Management Science/Rail Special Interest Group has announced the winners of its 2003 Student Paper contest, co-sponsored by Railway Age.

First place: New Approaches for Solving the Block-to-Train Assignment Problem, by Krishna Jha, University of Florida. Second place: Bicriteria Train ,Scheduling for Intercity Passenger Railroad Planning, by Xuesong Zhou and Ming Zhong, University of Maryland. Honorable mentions: Solving Real-Life Railroad Blocking Problems, by Jian Liu, University of Florida, and Timetable Buffer Magnitude and Allocation: An Analysis Using Simulation, by Steven Harrod, University of Cincinnati.

RASIG's annual meeting is planned for Oct. 24-25, 2004. Railway Age again will be co-sponsoring the Student Paper contest. Abstracts of 200 words are due July 1; completed papers, Aug. 15 to Pooja Dewan, BNSF Railway, 2400 Lou Menk Drive, Fort Worth, TX, 76131; pooja.dewan@bnsf.com.
