URR mobilizes dispatch system

Railway Age, May, 2004

Union Railroad Co. awarded a contract to Digital Concepts for a Digital Traffic Control[TM] system to manage dispatching operations in Pittsburgh. In addition, URR will employ DigiCon's Wireless Management Workstations, laptop-based workstations that utilize eAX[TM] (Electronic Authority Exchange) to automate authority requests, issuances, and releases, and provide work planning tools for mobile maintenance personnel.

They will also enable URR to proactively monitor train, maintenance and signal operations with real-time access to graphical dispatcher screens both in the office and in the field. Delivery of the system is plunged for fall 2004. URR is a Class III switching railroad owned by US Steel, which operates approximately 65 miles of main track and 200 miles of yard tracks in the Pittsburgh area.
