John F. Tucker, III, 57, who managed Amtrak's Operations Planning Department in Washington, D.C., died Feb. 24. Tucker began his career with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority as a co-op student at Drexel University. He rose to Chief Operations Planning Officer and then Assistant General Manager at SEPTA's commuter railroad system.

He was General Manager of the Miami Valley Regional Transit Authority (Dayton, Ohio), then returned to the East Coast to work at the New York City Transit Authority, heading Operations Planning under David Gunn.
