Harsco - Supply Side - Harsco Track Technologies: New York Transit contract - Brief Article

MTA New York City Transit has awarded a $7 million contract to the Harsco Track Technologies division of Harsco Corp. to develop and produce a third-rail-powered rail grinding machine. The contract includes maintenance and spare parts sopport as well as an option for up to two additional units. The grinder will he used by NYCT to re-contour rail profiles and smooth rail surface corrugations.

The unit is believed to be the first of its kind to be engineered and built expressly for third-rail operation, meaning that all power will be drawn from the electrified third-rail instead of from an onboard diesel engine, eliminating engine exhaust emissions, Delivery is scheduled for 2004.
