SUBURBAN PASSENGER TRAFFIC

The announcement that one of the great railway companies centering in this city has decided to increase the trackage and station accommodations at its Chicago terminus solely for the use of suburban travel gives a text for a new discussion of the old question, Does suburban passenger traffic business pay? If that question should be put to an experienced commuter on any road doing a large commutation business which was about to make a large outlay for station facilities to accommodate that traffic, he would smile a knowing smile and say, "Do you think they would keep spending money on it if it didn't pay?"
