New York MTA has exercised an option with Bombardier for 352 electric-multiple-unit M-7 commuter railcars for the Long Island Rail Road. The option worth $600 million, follows a $554 million 1999 order for 326 LIRR cars. Additional options for 58 LIRR cars and 300 Metro-North cars, which would bring the total number of cars to 1,036, have not yet been exercised.
