Homeland Security - In Transit - Department of Homeland Security awards municipal transportation services grants to improve security - Brief Article

The U.S. Homeland Security Department has awarded a total of $65 million in grants to transit and commuter rail systems in 16 metropolitan areas to improve security. The New York City area will get the most money, just over $30 million, which will be divided among the city transportation department, the Long Island Rail Road, NYC Transit, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Also receiving varying amounts of funding are transit agencies in Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, Washinoton, D.C., Philadelphia, San Francisco, New Jersey, Atlanta, Maryland, Seattle, Houston, Portland (Ore.), Miami, Denver, and Pittsburgh.
