Simmons-Boardman acquires Davison Publishing Co

Railway Age, July, 2006

The Simmons-Boardman Publishing Corp. has acquired the assets of Davison Publishing Co. Inc. of Orlando, Fla. Davison produces seven annual directories, including three in the commercial marine field. Others cover the textile, fence, tile and stone, and corrugated box and folding carton industries.

Simmons-Boardman Chairman, President, and CEO Arthur J. McGinnis, Jr. said Davison Publishing LLC, as it is now known, will continue to be based in Orlando and will be managed by Robert P. DeMarco, SeniorVice President of Simmons-Boardman.

"This transaction brings together two of the nation's oldest business publishers," said McGinnis. Davison's oldest property traces its ancestry to 1866. Simmons-Boardman publishes magazines that began in 1856 (Railway Age), 1878 (Marine Log), 1905 (Railway Track & Structures), 1908 (ABA Banking Journal), 1961 (International Railway Journal/European Rail Outlook), and 1990 (Sign Builder Illustrated). Simmons-Boardman also publishes guides, directories, books, and learning materials, and operates a conference division.

"This acquisition is part of an ongoing strategy to broaden our earnings base as we continue to strengthen our core publications," said McGinnis. "We believe the move is a sound one for our company and our customers."
