ADTRANZ - Brief Article
Railway Age, August, 2000
ADTRANZ has delivered the first of three pre-production Class 185 dual-system electric locomotives to Germany's DB Cargo, which is acquiring 400 of these units. The Class 185 is equipped with an Adtranz train control system that will enable it to comply with the new European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) and European Train Control System (ETCS).
It has a fault-diagnosing system that enables maintenance staff to access data remotely via radio, The 87-mph locomotive is powered by a.c. traction motors and can operate on lines electrified at l5kV@18-2/3Hz and 25kV@50Hz. Adtranz says this is the largest order for locomotives to be placed in Germany in 50 years. Delivery of production units starts in January.
