PATH reopens Exchange Place - Transit Update - Brief Article

Railway Age, August, 2003

Shut down following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center, PATH's Jersey City, N.J., Exchange Place station (left) connecting New Jersey with Lower Manhattan reopened June 29 following $160 million worth of repairs and renovations. The station's platforms were extended to provide capacity for 10-car trains in anticipation of future ridership increases.

The tunnel to the WTC site (right), which was walled-off to prevent flooding, was completely rebuilt; work included new trackwork and signals. A temporary PATH station at the World Trade Center is scheduled to open in November.
