Interborough rapid transit instruction car

Railway Age, August, 2004

In order to start the subway operation in New York on practically full schedule and with a force of trained men, the Interborough has commenced the instruction of motormen by means of a specially designed instruction car. It is expected that about 3,000 men will be instructed. Tiffs car contains all the brake and power apparatus used on one of the subway trains.

Instruction is given not only in handling the power and brakes, but with regard to the operations of the signal system, which is provided with automatic train stop. It is essential that the applicant has had some experience either on steam or electric roads.
