Awarded a $141 million contract to a joint venture of Siemens Transportation Systems and E.A. Technologies/Petrocelli Electric Co. to install and maintain for five years a fiber-optic communications network for MTA New York City Transit. The carrier-grade system will enable NYCT to transmit voice and data communications using SONET (synchronous optical network) and ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) technologies.
It's expected to be operational by April 2004.
