District of Columbia DOT and the National Capital Planning Commission

Railway Age, Sept, 2006

> District of Columbia DOT and the National Capital Planning Commission: Awarded a contract to Parsons Brinckcrhoff to evaluate alternatives for a freight railroad bypass line around Washington, D.C. Such a bypass would prevent hazmat from being transported in close proximity to federal offices. The study, to be completed in early 2007, also will consider redevelopment of the existing CSX right-of-way, which is currently also used by Amtrak and Virginia Railway Express passenger trains.
