Equipment Finance '91 will focus on the shipper role - Chicago exhibit - column

Railway Age, Dec, 1990 by Anthony Kruglinski

New Locomotive Building. We'll explore 1990 as a year for new locomotive building and design. As always, we'll review fleet statistics of both EMD and GE and try to predict the future.

Locomotive Rebuilding. Big changes here. An apparent softening in the market for rebuilding has put pressures on price and quality standards. What should be rebuilt, and how much money should go into each unit will be targets of hot discussion. And as always financing options are on everyone's mind.

Black Boxes. Everyone-OEMs, railroads, lessors and remanufacturers are fiddling with the electronics of existing locomotives to see if they can jump performance (and possibly locomotive generations) by some cost effective electrical modifications. How successful have they been?

Leasing. Lower rent. Greater availability. Better quality Big changes since last year.

Readers will find more detailed information on the conference in this month's special 1991 Rail Finance Review and Desk Book section.
