TTX plans a "modest" fleet expansion

Railway Age, Jan, 1997

Directors of TTX have approved a $130 million equipment program for 1997, one that anticipates a "modest" fleet expansion that will include doublestack intermodal cars, motor vehicle equipment, centerbeam cars, and both bulkhead and heavy duty flat cars.

The first orders placed are for 500 centerbeam lumber cars and 400 bulkhead flats for steel products, from Gunderson.

TTX President and CEO Ray Burton said the company is optimistic about long-term growth for the markets served by its equipment pool. But, he said, "prudence dictates a somewhat cautious approach in the short term while a clearer picture of the demands of the marketplace materializes."

TTX expects to show a profit of $75 million for 1996 on revenues of about $860 million.
