Mexico City - orders 78 a.c.-propulsion cars from Bombardier-Concarril for its subway - Brief Article

Railway Age, Feb, 1996

Mexico City: Sistema de Transporte Colectivo placed a $117 million order with Bombardier-Concarril for 78 a.c.-propulsion cars for Line A, Mexico City's only subway route that uses steel-wheeled cars. Bombardier Concarril will build the cars at its Sahagun plant, with deliveries beginning in September 1997 and extending over a 14-month period.

Meanwhile, Bombardier Concarril continues to refurbish 234 robber-tired subway cars for Mexico City. Bombardier's Mexican subsidiary also is part of a three-company consortium that has been selected for a future concession to build and operate the "Tren Elevado" system that will link downtown Mexico City with the northwest suburbs.
