Railway Age, Feb, 1996
METRO-NORTH has installed a fully enclosed automated car washing facility at Stainford, Conn., replacing a 40-year-old open-air wash. Capable of washing stainless steel, aluminum, and plastic surfaces, the facility recycles, treats, and neutralizes all wash water before discharging it to a sanitary sewer in daily amounts up to 4,000 gallons.
ICF Kaiser Engineers designed the facility, with construction engineering and inspection services provided by Frederic R. Harris and general contracting provided by P. Francini & Co. SSI, Inc., Tonowanda, N.Y., supplied the equipment. It is owned by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
