Orris group buys ex-SP intermodal unit

Donald C. Orris, who was president of Southern Pacific prior to its acquisition by Union Pacific, heads a management group that has purchased the ex-SP intermodal marketing company, ABL-TRANS (ABLT). Included in the transaction are ABLT's holding company, Pacific Motor Transport Co., and Pacer, a trucking company.
Orris is chairman of ABLT with Robert L. Cross remaining as president. The company is based in Lafayette, Calif. The ABLT group reported revenues of $83 million in 1998 and is aiming for $100 million this year.
