China's Ministry of Railways - to invest $36.5 billion in upgrades and new lines - Brief Article

CHINA'S MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS says it will invest $39.6 billion over the next five years to upgrade existing track and build new lines where traffic is heaviest. The average speed on many main lines is to be increased from the present 37 mph to nearly 90 mph. To reduce costs, more than 1,500 lightly used passenger stations and about the same number of freight depots will be closed.
