ATS to acquire Santa Fe mill - American Track Systems to buy rail mill at Newton, Kansas from Santa Fe railroads - Brief Article

Railway Age, Sept, 1992

American Track Systems has signed an agreement in principle to purchase Santa Fe's rail mill at Newton, Kan.

The mill now manufactures switches and other track materials exclusively for Santa Fe, and the railway will continue to be supplied with these products. But when the purchase becomes final, ATS will expand the product base "to include other track items for Class I railroads and transit systems worldwide."

Mike Franke, Santa Fe vice president-maintenance, said that Santa Fe "will still receive the high product quality we have been accustomed to for many years, as well as have access to European technology in component development for high-speed rail transportation- We welcome the opportunity to take advantage of this emerging technology that will allow us to provide better service."

American Track Systems said that it has acquired "an exclusive manufacturing and distribution license for our European patented developments, and we are excited about the opportunity to bring our technology and products to the U.S. market."
