How the West was sung - ethnic music festival in Colorado - Brief Article

Sunset, August, 2000 by Peter Fish

* August 10-13. From the beat of a Native American drum to the high, lonesome notes of a pedal steel solo--the West is second to none when it comes to musical heritage. That's why the University of Colorado's Center of the American West is sponsoring its first festival, Listening to the West: Music in the Soul of a Region.

Part scholarly conference, part dance party, the event will feature performers from singer Tish Hinojosa to a Native American "courting" flute player, at Boulder's Chautauqua Park and other venues.
