Planting ideas: meet our garden experts

Sunset copy editor and self-described "grammar geek" Dave Becker will again be speaking to full houses from the Garden stage at Sunset's Celebration Weekend, proof that expertise can be found in unexpected corners.

Before joining us four years ago, Dave studied journalism at San Diego State University and worked for six years in nurseries, where he taught himself answers to every kind of gardening question. Once he arrived at Sunset, it didn't take editors long to notice Dave's ease with botanical names. They started tossing him writing assignments, then added him to the experts in the Celebration Weekend garden-advice kiosk. From there it was a smooth step to the Garden stage, where he now shares his know-how with a crowd.
