>ALASKA MARINE HIGHWAY SYSTEMDon't forget: you can always take public transportation through the Inside Passage. In summer, the 600-passenger ferry Columbia leaves Bellingham on Fridays, winds its way to Skagway, and returns a week later. Round-trip fares range from $492 per person for foot passengers willing to camp out on deck to $784 per person for foot passengers in an outside stateroom that sleeps four. Kayaks, motorcycles, and vehicles cost extra. You can even create a custom itinerary with longer stops in certain ports, depending on your interests. (800) 642-0066 - J.E.N.
