61 Mist Trail, Yosemite National Park, California. You'll huff and puff along this steep 7-mile loop, but it's worth the sight and sound of the Merced River as it drops 317 feet at Vernal Fall and an awesome 594 feet at Nevada Fall. WHERE: The trail starts at Happy Isles (shuttle stop 16) in Yosemite National Park. WHEN: Closed by heavy snow. COST: Park fee $20 per vehicle. CONTACT: (209) 372-0200.
62 Havasu Canyon trail, Havasupai Reservation, Arizona. Only 35 air miles from Grand Canyon Village flows one of the most dramatic series of waterfalls in the West. Havasu Creek tumbles over three limestone cliffs - 75-foot-high Navajo, 100-foot-high Havasu, and 196-foot-high Mooney. The trail totals 8 miles one-way to the bottom of the canyon. Camping, lodging, and use of the trail all require reservations with the Havasupai people. WHERE: Haulapai Hilltop, about 150 miles northeast of Kingman. WHEN: Open year-round. COST: $15 per person to enter the reservation. CONTACT: (520) 448-2111.

65 Lewis River Trail, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington. Hundreds of waterfalls grace the Gifford Pinchot.
