Do you carry a medical card?

Sunset, March, 1988

Do you carry a medical card? Last summer, a Sunset editor had a dangerous experience. Hiking up Mount Conness in Yosemite, he fell, was seriously injured, and had to be helicoptered to a hospital in Modesto.

He learned the hard way that he ought to carry with him the basic information medical people need to know to quickly and safely treat emergency arrivals.

Now he always carries a card bearing the data listed below. Such a card is a wise addition for cyclists and boaters, too--and for any traveler. In fact, something similar should be in everyone's wallet.

You might want to fill out this card and use it. Your own doctor may ask you to add more information, including the work-day telephone number of your spouse.
