Another garage door opens up his well-equipped but undersize shop

Sunset, April, 1985

An interior garage door, added in the rear wall of an existing garage, opened up ample new shop space for owners Julie and Philip Roybal of Los Altos, California. Since there was already a narrow 8-by 20-foot office-storeroom across the back of the detached building, the Roybals needed only a 10- by 10-foot addition to make room for all their woodworking equipment. The 9-foot-wide door, normally used for a single-car garage, rolls up when space-intensive projects require more room.

Design is by architect John Duvivier of Holland, East, Duvivier, Architects of Redwood City, California.
