Denver's new showcase for daring art Experimental art isn't widely exhibited in Denver, so its new showcase in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, at 14th and Curtis streets, is a welcome addition. The nonprofit Center for Idea Art in one of the galleria spaces focuss on work ranging from performance art to environmental installations.

Idea Art's gallery fills a space that has been empty for eight years. In fall the center's auditorium arena will be remodeled and work will continue on the galleria, which should bring more life and activity to this controversial complex.

From July 25 through August 31, the gallery shows Michael Crane's seashore photographs and environmental installation works by Barbara Houghton, including a 40-foot model of a croquet game complete with sod and life-size figures.

The gallery stays open most evenings until 8, so you can drop in before the theater or symphony. Hours are noon to 8 Mondays through Saturdays, 1 to 4 Sundays.
