Art in America, Oct, 2001 by Stephanie Cash, David Ebony
Last spring, the Brooklyn Museum of Art received a $10-million grant from the Henry Luce Foundation to establish the Luce Center for American Art. Eventually, the Luce Center will encompass some 17,000 square feet of space on the museum's fifth floor. The first phase of the project, completed in September, includes reinstalled galleries for the American art collections.
Later this fall, an orientation center will present extensive text panels discussing collection highlights. Dispersed among the rooms will be four film and video stations showing film loops related to the objects on view. The second phase of the project is a new study center, to open in 2002, which will be located adjacent to the galleries.
