James Cuno, director of the Harvard University Art Museums since 1991 and professor of the history of art and architecture, has been named director of London's Courtauld Institute of Art. He replaces Eric Fernie, director since 1995, who has become a senior fellow at the Getty Research Institute in L.A. Cuno assumes his new post Jan. 6, 2003;
