Wilder gift to Hammer - Artworld - UCLA Film and Television Archive - Brief Article
Art in America, Oct, 2003
The UCLA Hammer Museum and the UCLA Film and Television Archive recently announced that they have received a $5-million gift from Audrey L. Wilder. The funds will be used toward the construction of the Billy Wilder Theater, named after her husband, the acclaimed filmmaker, who died last year at age 95.
The new 288-seat multimedia theater, to be used by both institutions, is part of the Hammer's ambitious restoration and expansion project designed by architect Michael Maltzan in collaboration with designer Bruce Mau. In addition to the theater, the scheme calls for 3,650 square feet of new exhibition space, a reception and lecture hall, and a multipurpose classroom. Construction is set to begin next year.
