The Art Institute of Chicago recently announced that it has received a $2.75-million gift from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The funds will be used to support a new senior conservation scientist within the museum's department of conservation, as well as to purchase analytical instruments. The museum has assigned the position to Francesca Casadio, a stone specialist known for her recent work on the facade of the Duomo in Milan.
