Derrick Cartwright, director of the Musee d'Art Americain in Giverny, France, has been named director of the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. He assumes his new post in January.

The Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, has selected Paul Warwick Thompson as its new director. Since 1992, he has served as director of London's Design Museum.

The New York-based American Federation of Arts has named Julia Brown its new director, replacing Serena Rattazzi, who retired after 10 years in the position. Brown served as curator of special exhibitions at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum from 1995 to March 2000.

The Swiss Institute in New York has selected Marc-Olivier Wahler as its new artistic director and Mary Rozell as its managing director. Since 1994, Wahler has served as artistic director of the Center for Contemporary Art in Neuchatel, Switzerland. Rozell, an art lawyer and art historian, recently served as director of the International Studio Program for European Artists in Weimar, Germany.

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago has named Greg Cameron its associate director. He has been chief development officer at the museum for 10 years.

Harvard University's Fogg Art Museum has appointed Theodore E. Stebbins, Jr., its consultative curator of American art. He served as curator of American paintings at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts for 22 years.

Jorg Zutter, director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Lausanne, Switzerland, since 1991, has been appointed head of international art at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra.

Bonnie Pitman was recently named deputy director of the Dallas Museum of Art. From 1990 to '95, she was deputy director of the Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive.

Former art dealer Stefano Basilico has been named curator of the art collection of the New School University in New York. He closed his gallery at the end of last season.

The Yale University Art Gallery has announced three curatorial appointments. Suzanne Boorsch, associate curator of drawings at the Metropolitan Museum, is the new senior curator of prints, drawings and photographs. Jennifer Gross, curator of contemporary add and public programming at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, is now senior curator of European and contemporary art. In that same department, Jean Cadogan, professor at Trinity College in Hartford, joins the staff as consulting curator.

The Portland [Ore.] Art Museum recently named Bruce Guenther its curator of modern and contemporary art. He had been chief curator at the Orange County Museum of Art in Newport Beach, Calif.

Ian Berry, assistant curator at the Williams College Museum of Art, has been appointed curator of the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

The Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston has named Valerie Cassel its associate curator. Since 1996, she has been director of the visiting artists program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She was also one of six curators for the 2000 Whitney Biennial.

The San Diego Museum of Art has named Betti-Sue Hertz its new curator of contemporary art. She recently served as director of the Longwood Arts Project in the Bronx and as consultant to Thread Waxing Space in Manhattan.

Trevor Fairbrother, deputy director of art and curator of modern add at the Seattle Art Museum since 1996, recently announced his resignation, effective February 2001. He plans to pursue independent projects.

Will South is the new curator for collections at the Weatherspoon Art Gallery at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. He had been research curator since 1991 at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts in Salt Lake City.

The Carnegie Museum of Art has selected Joseph Rosa as curator of its Heinz Architectural Center. A practicing architect from 1979 to '89, he most recently served as chief curator of the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

Thomas Rhoads, founding director of the Santa Monica Museum of Art, has been named manager of administration at the Getty Museum.

Elaina Richardson, editor in chief of Elle since 1996, was recently named president of the Yaddo artists colony in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., succeeding Michael Sundell.
