Gehry tapped for ground zero
Art in America, Dec, 2004
Joining the list of world-renowned architects working on rebuilding Lower Manhattan, Frank Gehry was recently chosen to design a new performance center for Ground Zero. The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation selected him from among 10 finalists to construct a building that will house both the Joyce International Center for Dance and the Signature Theater Center.
Expected to cost at least $300 million, the 250,000-square-foot structure will be built next to the new Drawing Center, to be designed by the Norwegian firm Sonhetta. Both venues are scheduled to open in 2009.
