The Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum recently presented its National Design Awards [see Triennial article, p. 62]. Lifetime achievement awards were given to architect I.M. Pei, and the designers Lella and Massimo Vignelli. Among the other recipients are Tod Williams and Billie Tsien for architecture, and Michael Van Valkenberg for environmental design.
