American sculptor Richard Serra and British architect Norman Foster have been elected members of the Order of Merit for Science and Art, an honor given to scientists, scholars and artists by the German government.
Fred Wilson, who will represent the U.S. at the 2003 Venice Biennale, is the winner of the 2002 Larry Aldrich Foundation Award, given by the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, Conn. He receives $25,000 and an exhibition, which will open in January 2004.
The inaugural Walter Hopps Award for Curatorial Achievement, given by the Menil Collection in Houston, has been presented to Roger M. Buergel, a Vienna-based independent curator and lecturer in visual theory at Luneburg University in Germany. He receives a $15,000 stipend and will lecture at the museum early this year.
