Anthony Hirschel, director of the Indianapolis Museum of Art since November 2001, recently resigned for personal reasons, stating that he was no longer "the best fit for the museum." The museum is nearing completion of a $74-million renovation and expansion, which will double its size. Ellen W. Lee, chief curator and deputy director for collections and public programs at the museum, has been named distinguished senior curator, a new position there.

Lee, who has been at the IMA for 33 years, will continue to head the department of painting and sculpture. Assuming the post of deputy director is Diane De Grazia, who was chief curator at the Cleveland Museum of Art from 1995 to 2001.
