United States Artists has announced the winners of its first round of fellowships, totaling $2.5 million

United States Artists (USA) has announced the winners of its first round of fellowships, totaling $2.5 million. Formed with $20 million in seed money from the Ford, Rockefeller, Prudential and Rasmuson foundations, USA also raises funds from private individuals, corporations and other foundations, including Eli and Edythe Broad, Ella Cisneros, Agnes Gund and Target Stores.
Winners, who receive $50,000, were selected from 300 applicants by panels of experts in each field, including architecture & design, crafts & traditional arts, dance, literature, media, music, theater arts and visual arts. Recipients in the visual-arts category are Laylah All, Mark Bradford, Nick Cave, Sam Durant, Mark Handforth, Anna Sew Hoy, Michael Joo, Michael Lesy, Catherine Opie, William Pope. L, Michael Queenland and Chris Ware.
