The Penny McCall Foundation recently presented its 2002 fellowships, worth $30,000 each, to seven individuals. The winners are Matvey Levenstein (painting), Franco Mondini-Ruiz (installation/performance), Jeanne Silverthorne (installation/sculpture), Guy Richards Smit (video/performance), Lynne Yamamoto (installation/sculpture), Faye Hirsch (writer/art critic), John Perreault (critic/curator).
Performance artist William Pope. L, film and video artists Adam Chodzko and Paul Sietsema, and poet and critic John Yau are among the latest group of recipients of $20,000 grants from the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts.
Artists Catherine Richards and Alan Storey are the first winners of the Artists-in-Residence for Research program of the Canada Council for the Arts and the National Research Council of Canada. The program was established to foster interaction between the arts and science and technology. The artists, who each receive $150,000 over two years, will work with scientists and engineers at their selected research centers in Canada.
The Anonymous Was a Woman Foundation has announced the winners of its 2002 grants. Artists receiving $25,000 each are Lutz Bacher, Beverly Buchanan, Kathy Butterly, Pat de Groot, Alison Knowles, Deborah Luster, Sana Musasama, Constance Joan Samaras, Kim Sooja and Gail Wight.
The Rema Hort Mann Foundation has awarded grants of $7,000 to 11 artists. The recipients are David Altmejd, Jenny Dubnau, Luis Gispert, Amy Globus, Deborah Grant, Frank Magnotta, Dana Schutz, Ward Shelley, Eli Sudbrack, Danielle Webb and Kehinde Wiley.
The American Center Foundation recently announced the recipients of its Fund for Arts Research grants. Among the 11 curators selected were Melissa Chiu of the Asia Society, New York; Christine Y. Kim of the Studio Museum in Harlem; and Jose Roca of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia. Each curator received $5,000 for international travel and research. Recipients of a second round of 10 Fund for Arts Research grants included Chris Gilbert of the Des Moines Art Center; independent New York-based artist, writer and curator Jon Ippolito; and independent curator Osvaldo Sanchez of Mexico City.
