Topic: RSS FeedAuction House Rents Museum - Phillips Auctioneers rents American Craft Museum - Brief Article
Art in America, April, 2000 by Stephanie Cash, David Ebony
Following on the heels of other surprising business arrangements between public art institutions and private companies, the American Craft Museum at 40 W. 53rd Street in New York has agreed to rent its entire exhibition space to Phillips Auctioneers for use during its spring sales of 19th- and 20th-century paintings and Japanese art.
Phillips is sponsoring the museum's current exhibition, "Defining Craft," on view through May 7. From about May 11 to May 19 the auction house will occupy the museum with its previews and sales. The institution is located just a few blocks from the new LVMH Tower [see "Front Page," Feb. '00], the U.S. headquarters of the Bernard Arnault-owned company that controls Phillips.
