Holland's billion-dollar baby

Art in America, June-July, 2004 by David Ebony

Surprising juxtapositions of works were among the most delightful aspects of the Maastricht experience. Di Robilant-Voena from London and Milan, for example, showed a Francis Bacon portrait head with a bright blue background, flanked by two large Canaletto Venice views; the bizarre but effective grouping left an indelible impression.

Attention to detail was consistent and refined throughout the fair. Even London's Andrew Bruce Fine Wines, for instance, a booth specializing in rare vintages, took the time and care to adorn its walls with brilliantly colored and textured recent paintings by British artist Tony Bevan.
