More than two dozen exhibitions are scheduled to take place in Weimar during its 1999 stint as European Cultural Capital. Of the shows mentioned in this article, "Rise and Fall of the Modern: Weimar, a German Example 1890-1990" can be seen at the Castle Museum (Schlossmuseum) and the Landesverwaltungsamt (Gauforum) [May 9-Aug. 1]. "Fresh Wind from Changing Directions," the initial presentation of the Paul Maenz Collection at the New Museum, is on view for an extended period. The public works in "Light on Weimar" are sited at various locations around the city [May 1-Aug. 31]. The Artists Garden is an ongoing project at the garden of the Villa Haar. "Europe in the Box" was on view at ACC Galerie [Apr. 16-June 6]. Ute Klophaus's exhibition "Mythos Weimar" was presented at the Schiller Museum [Feb. 12-Mar. 31].
